Fighting Food Insecurity

04.01.2026 2mins | News

In response to rising food insecurity, the AXA Foundation for Human Progress is supporting organizations dedicated to addressing this issue across the country, as part of its broader ambition to protect what matters and help build a more resilient and inclusive society. The Foundation is providing assistance in the form of food distribution, financing logistics vehicles, storage facilities, and food kits.

The French Federation of Food Banks

As France’s leading food aid network, it assists 2.4 million people with increasingly diverse profiles due to the impact of rising prices. Our support benefits 79 food banks in France and is specifically dedicated to purchasing food and covering related indirect costs.

Fondation de l’Armée du Salut

This foundation leads and coordinates the work of social, medical-social, and health services and facilities that serve people made vulnerable by life’s hardships, addictions, or all forms of precarity. We have enabled the implementation of food aid projects for the most vulnerable populations across the country:

  • La Cocotte / Ciney 18 (Paris): A shared kitchen, primarily serving single mothers in precarious situations;

  • L’épicerie des solidarités (Belfort) and L’Essentiel (Mulhouse): Social and solidarity-based grocery stores, promoting social mix and that are accessible to people in precarious situations;

  • La Bonne Adresse (Marseille): A welcoming space for homeless individuals, offering essential services including a kitchen;

  • Social Restaurant (Lyon): Serves hot meals to residents and external guests, and employs people in professional reintegration.

COP1 - Student Solidarity

In France, many students must choose between studying and meeting their basic needs. COP1 is a “by and for students” network that provides free food and hygiene and basics products so that no one has to face poverty alone while pursuing a degree. With our support, COP1 is strengthening its nationwide action against student poverty by opening new local branches in Besançon, Toulouse, Pointe-à-Pitre and Bordeaux.

Equipage Solidaire - Digital Solidarity for Students

Created in 2020, the association is notably behind Delivraide, a digital food aid platform that delivers food and hygiene kits to students in need. It relies on digital tools and also on the commitment of 2,300 volunteers across France to support young people facing hardship. Our support is specifically dedicated to financing storage facilities used by Equipage Solidaire in the different cities where it operates.

By partnering with major national players and local initiatives, the Foundation aims both to meet urgent needs and to strengthen long-term food support systems: preventing people from tipping into extreme poverty, reducing social isolation and enabling children, families and students to focus on their health, education and prospects for the future.
