Accessibility statement

The AXA Foundation for Human Progress is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with Article 47 of French Law No. 2005-102 of 11 February 2005. This accessibility statement applies to the website of the AXA Foundation for Human Progress.

This statement was drawn up on 10 September 2026.

A corrective action plan is underway. This statement will be updated as corrections are deployed and after a further audit with assistive technologies.

Compliance status

The website of the AXA Foundation for Human Progress is partially compliant with the French general accessibility improvement framework (RGAA) version 4.1, because of the non-compliances listed below.

Test results

The compliance audit carried out by Bear Ideas shows that 60% of the RGAA 4.1 criteria are met.

The compliance rate is the number of compliant criteria divided by the number of applicable criteria (45 out of 75).

The foundations are sound: page language and titles, skip link, contact form, home page slider with a pause control, FAQ accordion, zoom and reflow. The non-compliances are concentrated in three areas: the interactive mosaic of funded projects, content revealed only on mouse hover (mega menu, tiles, cards) and the contrast of text placed over photographs.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons.

  • Funded projects mosaic: the project tiles, filters, search field and previous/next arrows have no accessible name; the project sheet opens as an overlay without a dialog role or focus management, and the Escape key does not close it. This content cannot be used with a keyboard or a screen reader.
  • FAQ accordions on the Fund your research pages: the questions cannot be reached or opened with a keyboard, and the collapsed answers are still read by screen readers.
  • Navigation compass on the pillar pages: it only responds to mouse clicks, and its hidden links remain in the tab order.
  • Governance member windows on the About page: no dialog role, focus is neither moved nor restored, closed windows remain in the tab order, and the LinkedIn link has no label.
  • Desktop mega menu: the Field of research sub-entries appear only on mouse hover and cannot be reached with a keyboard.
  • Mobile menu: the menu button is placed after the menu in the page order, the Escape key does not close the menu and the expanded state of sub-levels is not announced.
  • Insufficient contrast: white text over photographs (research field tiles, home page slider, team portraits), current page in the news pagination, section headings in the sitemap, form field borders and some focus indicators.
  • Image alternatives: editorial images from the content blocks are published without their text alternative, some alternatives repeat the adjacent title, and decorative icons are not hidden from assistive technologies.
  • Untranslated text: some English labels appear on the French pages without a language attribute.
  • Videos: no text transcript is provided, and the video on the tested project sheet only has automatic subtitles.
  • Page structure: no header landmark, some heading levels are skipped or empty, and the breadcrumb is not identified as a navigation region.
  • Focus visibility and text spacing: the news filter has no visible focus indicator, and some card titles are truncated when text spacing is increased.

Derogation for disproportionate burden

No derogation has been claimed at this stage. The funded projects mosaic (a compiled application whose source code is outside the website repository) concentrates the most serious defects, and a redesign is already under consideration. The decision is still pending: if it cannot be corrected, this content will either be covered by a justified derogation or be accompanied by an accessible alternative, such as a paginated HTML list of projects with native filters.

Content not subject to the accessibility obligation

  • The OneTrust cookie banner and preference centre (third-party content not controlled by the Foundation).
  • YouTube video players (third-party content), except for subtitles and transcripts, which remain the Foundation's responsibility.
  • The PDF document “AXA Chairs application guidelines”, hosted on AXA's content delivery network.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was drawn up on 10 September 2026, on the basis of an audit carried out on the same day.

Technologies used to build the website

  • HTML5, CSS (Tailwind CSS 3), JavaScript (Vue 3, Flickity)
  • Laravel (Blade) on the server side

User agents and assistive technologies used for the tests

  • Chromium 138 (Chrome for Testing) driven by Playwright 1.52, at 1366 × 900, 683 × 900 with 200% zoom, 375 × 812 and 320 × 700 (mobile)
  • Emulation of the reduced motion preference

No test has been carried out with a screen reader (NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver) at this stage. The criteria relating to screen reader output were assessed from the accessibility tree and the source code. An audit with NVDA and Firefox, then with VoiceOver and Safari, is planned before this statement is updated.

Tools used to evaluate accessibility

  • axe-core 4.10.3 (WCAG 2.x A/AA rules and best practices) on 22 desktop pages and 10 mobile pages
  • Playwright keyboard navigation scripts (tab order log, aria states, computed focus)
  • Contrast measurement by sampling background pixels, covering photographs, gradients and oklch colours
  • Text spacing CSS injection (WCAG 1.4.12), zoom and reflow emulation
  • Static review of the Blade, CSS and JavaScript source code
  • Verification of YouTube subtitle tracks

Pages checked for compliance

The sample covers 22 pages. The home page, a news article and the contact page were checked in both English and French.
