Protecting the Living World for a Viable Future

Through its Nature pillar, the AXA Foundation for Human Progress is committed to restoring, preserving, and sustainably managing natural environments for future generations, while fostering a culture of natural risk prevention.

Addressing the Environmental Emergency

Alongside committed partners and local communities, the AXA Foundation for Human Progress develops co-created projects on agricultural & forestry transitions, water & oceans, urban–nature relationships, and terrestrial & marine protected areas. These initiatives aim to combat biodiversity loss and protect soil health and water resources, while promoting healthy and resilient food systems, supported by innovative financial mechanisms to sustain the ecological transition over the long term.

Spreading a Culture of Prevention

Spreading a Culture of Prevention

We believe young people have a role to play in this transition, and by offering concrete frameworks for engagement based on experimentation, transmission and collective action, the Foundation helps build a shared culture of prevention.

A Systemic Commitment to Nature

A Systemic Commitment to Nature

Reconciling people and the living world is not a slogan. Protecting key ecosystems means protecting the communities that depend on them: soil quality determines water resources, forests regulate water cycles, and the ocean - the ultimate receptacle - reflects the overall state of health.
Every project supported by the AXA Foundation for Human Progress contributes to a chain of interventions - from science to citizens, from local to global - showing that it is possible to repair, to prevent and to prepare for the future, together.

Acting for human progress means adopting a systemic approach, recognizing that caring for nature is fundamental to sustainable and equitable economic development.

IUCN - Strengthening the Foundations of Ecosystem Conservation

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) preserves nature and ensures the fair and sustainable use of its resources. We are funding three strategic areas to make a difference: mapping Nature-based Solutions, integrating biodiversity into renewable energy, expanding the Red List of ecosystems to guide global conservation.

Waves of Change - Strengthening Coastal Cities Resilience to Flood Risk

Through this platform, we are supporting a pilot program in three French coastal cities facing floods using nature-based solutions - whose results can be scaled up nationally and internationally, and in a marine protected area where human and non-human life coexist, to strengthen the resilience of coastal ecosystems.

Tara Océan - France’s Leading Ocean-Focused Foundation

Tara develops open innovative science to better predict and manage climate risks, while promoting education, engaging decision-makers and sharing knowledge with emerging countries. We support its scientific expeditions and its mediation programs – during its schooner’s stopovers, through workshops, events, educational content – to share this knowledge around the world.

Météo et Climat – Learning About the Living World to Better Protect It

Through its Climate and Biodiversity Tour, Météo et Climat brings knowledge about the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss to local communities and young audience in schools, making these issues accessible so they can understand today’s challenges and take part in the response.

IPOS - Supporting Ocean Governance

Through the International Platform for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS), we support global, science-based decision-making for a sustainable ocean, and support IPOSGPT’s development, a low-carbon AI tool that helps states access cutting-edge marine knowledge and meet their ocean sustainability commitments.
